Dog hurdle training is run with a barrier. You will need to teach your Staffy the "Jump" command to overcome the hurdle.
Acquaint Staffy with the barrier, go round about it before the obstacle overcoming.
Make the dog seat nearby at your left leg. The distance to the hurdle should be 5-6 m. Tell the command "Heel" and move towards the jump with the dog. Then, having reached the obstacle, tell "Jump" and overcome it making Staffy to follow you with a slight leash pulling (while a jump). Repeat the exercise several times.
You needn't jump over the barrier with Staffy at the next lesson. Just encourage the dog to jump over the hurdle.
Tell "Jump" when the dog reaches the obstacle and pull the lead slightly forward and up a little. The dog is shown the motion: a hand towards the obstacle at the same time.
Run round the hurdle from the right side and tell "Heel" before Staffy's landing. Reward the dog with a toy or a treat.
Start from the easiest exercises. Don't train the dog just after feeding. Complicate the exercises gradually with allowance for your dog's physical well-being.
